LEXINGTON, Ky. – University of Kentucky men’s tennis freshman Tom Jomby has been named the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week after earning two singles wins and a doubles win in the 14th-ranked Wildcats three team wins last week.

“It is really tough to come in as a freshman in January and compete on the schedule that we are forced to play,” UK head coach Dennis Emery said. “However, Tom has done very well and his results reflect that. We look for him to continue to improve and be a big part of what we are doing going forward.”

Last week, Jomby led the UK charge in singles, helping the Wildcats defeat two top-40 ranked teams with his singles wins against No. 21 Notre Dame and No. 37 Alabama. The 6-foot-6 freshman was spectacular in doubles for Kentucky, posting a win at No. 2 doubles against Notre Dame that clinched the doubles point for UK.

Jomby has been impressive for Kentucky all season, scoring a 9-4 singles record, including a 3-2 mark in SEC play. The native of Nantes, France, has also been solid for UK in doubles with partner Alberto Gonzalez, earning a 9-5 doubles record. The tandem is currently ranked 41st in the nation with wins over the No. 36 and No. 55 ranked doubles teams. Jomby has won four consecutive singles matches and six of his last seven.
