LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Kentucky women’s tennis team begins the Texas portion of its six-match road swing on Wednesday with a showdown against No. 9 Baylor in Waco, Texas, at the Baylor Tennis Center.
Kentucky will head to Texas to face Baylor on Wednesday, followed by a match against TCU in Fort Worth, Texas, on Thursday and ending with a match against Texas Tech in Lubbock, Texas, on Saturday.
The Wildcats enter the match coming off a pair of 6-1 road losses to No. 21 Tennessee and No. 11 Georgia. Freshman Khristina Blajkevitch picked up her fourth singles victory of the season against Tennessee, and senior Megan Broderick recorded her co-team-leading sixth singles victory of the season. The win was also Broderick’s 60th of her collegiate career.
Broderick, along with sophomore Jessica Stiles and freshman Caitlin McGraw, lead the Cats with six singles victories on the season. Broderick and Blajkevitch have played at the No. 1 doubles position during the Southeastern Conference season, recording three total victories, including one conference win.
Baylor (9-2) is coming off a 5-2 win at home over No. 3 Miami (Fla.). The Bears are led in singles by Sona Novakova and Diana Nakic, the No. 11 and No. 36 ranked singles players in the country, respectively. In doubles, Novakova pairs with Nina Secerbegovic to form the No. 29 ranked doubles tandem in the nation.
The Wildcats and Bears have met just once before in their history, with Baylor earning that victory.
