LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Kentucky women’s golf team improved upon its first round score by four strokes and sophomore Ashleigh Albrecht fired an even-par, 72 to move into the top 20 at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate Golf Championship on Monday in New Orleans.

Albrecht, along with freshman Liz Breed who carded a 2-over par 74, led the Cats in day two at the English Turn Golf and Country Club. Kentucky fired a 13-over par, 301 Sunday to remain in 15th place.

“Today was a day filled with adversity for our team between the windy conditions and early frustration,” UK head coach Golda Johansson Borst said. “Ashleigh and Liz really made me proud with how they faced trouble early in their rounds. We had a very good practice session after the round and I am confident in our team to come back tomorrow and finish strong in this event.”

Albrecht’s round fluctuated throughout, grabbing five birdies but also three bogeys and a double bogey to shoot even-par 36s going out and coming in.

Breed shot a 2-over par 38 on her opening nine, but birdied three holes on her second nine to come in with an even-par 36.

Junior Ashlee Rose shot a 5-over par 77 in her second round and currently stands at 10-over for the tournament. Sophomore Heather Lott shot a 6-over par 78 and fellow sophomore Megan Moir carded a 12-over par 84.

Tuesday will mark the final round in New Orleans with a shotgun start beginning at 8:15 a.m. Albrecht will begin her round on the 12th hole for UK, while Breed and Rose will tee off on No. 13, and Lott and Moir will start at No. 14. Live results can be followed at golfstat.com.
