LEXINGTON, Ky. – Sophomore Ashleigh Albrecht has been named the Southeastern Conference co-Women’s Golfer of the Week, as announced by the league office Thursday.

Albrecht and Alabama freshman Stephanie Meadow share the award and are the first recipients of the honor for the 2011 spring season.

The Murrieta, Calif., native, coincidentally, shared the championship crown last weekend at the UCF Challenge at the RedTail Golf Club in Sorrento, Fla. Albrecht shot a three-round total of 8-under par, 208, including an opening round 6-under par, 66. Albrecht’s first round score is the second lowest round recorded in Kentucky women’s golf history since records began being kept in 1987-88.

Albrecht and Minnesota’s Teresa Puga shared the UCF Challenge individual championship after Albrecht birdied the 54th hole to send it into a two-hole playoff. The two golfers couldn’t break their tie in the playoff and took co-medalist honors.

Albrecht’s career score helped lead the Cats to a fourth-place finish out of 17 teams at the UCF Challenge and earn a season-low score of 17-over par, 881.

Kentucky, which comes in at No. 40 in the latest Golf World/NGCA Golf Coaches’ Poll, will head back out on the course Sunday for the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate Golf Championship in New Orleans. Ryan Harrington of Golf Digest ranked the three-day tournament as the second-best women’s collegiate tournament for the spring season. It is being held at the English Turn Golf and Country Club (Par 72, 6,105 yards) and is being hosted by Tulane University.
