LEXINGTON, Ky. – University of Kentucky sophomore Chase Parker posted the second-lowest score of the day at 3-under-par 69, earning him a spot tied at the top of the leaderboard after the first 36 holes at the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate at Magnolia Grove Golf Course on Monday. Kentucky (293-302-595) sits tied for sixth as a team.
Parker (73-69-142) was impressive in both rounds for the Wildcats, scoring a 1-over-par 73 in the first round, followed by his season-low score of 69 in the second round. The native of Augusta, Ga., had two birdies and 13 pars in the first round, including a stretch of 11 consecutive pars. In the second round, the freshman started with an eagle on the par-5 sixth hole before birdying the par-4 seventh hole to go on and grab the 3-under-par score. Parker sits at 2-under-par 142 for the tournament, good for a tie for first.
Freshman Cody Martin (73-73-146) was extremely strong playing as an individual, carding season-low scores of 1-over-par 73s in both the first and second round to sit in a tie for eighth heading into the final round. Martin earned eight birdies on the day.
Sophomore Joseph Barr (74-78-152) sits tied for 42nd on the event at 8-over-par 152. The native of Versailles, Ky., earned a solid score of 2-over-par 74 in the opening round, before scoring a 6-over-par 78 in the second round. The sophomore totaled four birdies on the first day.
Fellow sophomore Seth Blann (70-83-153) and freshman Stephen Powers (76-77-153) are tied for 47th after the first 36 holes with both players totaling a 9-over-par 153 at the end of day one. Blann scored the third-lowest round of the day with a season-low 2-under-par 70 in the first 18 holes but could not repeat the effort in the second round, scoring an 11-over-par 83. Powers had two consistent rounds, carding a 4-over-par 76 in the first round and a 5-over-par 77 to finish the day.
Senior Brian Belden wraps up the UK rotation, sitting in a tie for 81st with a 36-hole score of 18-over-par 162.
Kentucky had a decent day as a team. The Wildcats were in a tie for third after an opening round 5-over-par 293, but slipped slightly in the second round, scoring a 14-over-par 302 to sit tied for sixth heading into the final round Tuesday.
The final round will begin Tuesday morning by staggered tee times. All five Wildcats in the team rotation will tee off from the No. 1 tee between 9 a.m. and 9:40 a.m. Martin will tee off from No. 10 at 11:40 a.m. All times are Eastern. Live scores for the event are available at golfstat.com.
