CHARLESTON, S.C. — Riding a stretch of five-consecutive winning seasons, the Kentucky baseball team will open its 2011 campaign as part of a three-game opening weekend in Charleston, S.C., facing host No. 20 College of Charleston in the season lidlifter on Friday at 5 p.m. ET at the Ballpark at Patriots Point.
UK will also face Marshall on Saturday at 5 p.m. ET and Miami (Ohio) on Sunday at 11 a.m. ET.
All three games will be broadcast live on the Big Blue Sports Network (radio), with Dick Gabriel voicing the action. Fans can hear the games live on UKathletics.com and fans in Lexington can hear the game live on WGVN 1580-AM.
The Wildcats are coming off a 31-25 season in 2010, finishing a win shy of advancing to the Southeastern Conference Tournament. UK completed the regular-season with the eighth-most wins over ranked opponents, playing the seventh-hardest schedule in the NCAA and owning a top-30 RPI. In the midst of a rugged stretch drive late in the 2010 season, UK reeled off a 5-1 stretch in six games, sweeping 2009 NCAA Champion and eventual SEC Tournament Champion LSU and posting a series win over eventual NCAA Champion South Carolina.
Kentucky returns its entire weekend starting rotation from a year ago and will start sophomore right-hander Jordan Cooper on Friday vs. the Cougars. On Saturday, sophomore southpaw Taylor Rogers will get the start vs. Marshall and on Sunday junior right-hander Alex Meyer will face off with Miami (Ohio). The Cougars will counter Copper with junior right-hander David Peterson. On Saturday, Marshall will start southpaw Mike Mason and on Sunday, the Redhawks will start senior southpaw Tyler Melling.
Kentucky has played all three opponents in its history, owning winning series records against Marshall and Miami (Ohio). The Wildcats lead the series with Marshall, 27-10 and leads the series with the Redhawks, 22-13. UK and College of Charleston have meet only once in program history, during the history 2006 NCAA Lexington Regional. COC went on to win the regional in the championship game over the Wildcats, as UK senior starter Aaron Tennyson allowed a grand slam in the top of the first inning to the Cougars, with the Wildcats unable to recover.

The Wildcats opened up the 2008 season at South Alabama in Mobile, Ala.
