UCF Challenge Round 2 Results
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Sophomore Ashleigh Albrecht had another successful day in round two of the UCF Challenge in Sorrento, Fla., and the Kentucky women’s golf team held on to its fourth-place position on the team leaderboard heading into Tuesday’s final round.
Albrecht, who finished her first round as the co-leader with a 6-under par, 66, carded a 2-under par 70 to lead the Cats again on day two of the UCF Challenge. Albrecht found success once again on the 473-yard par-5 seventh hole. After carding an eagle in the first round on the seventh, the Murrieta, Calif., native got a birdie on day two.
In all, Albrecht went out with a 2-under par 34 and came in with an even-par, 36. She sits just one stroke off the lead held by Coastal Carolina’s Jessica Alexander at 9-under.
“I think we played solid today,” UK head coach Golda Johansson Borst said. “Unfortunately we had a couple swings here and there that got us in some trouble on the back nine. However, we took a lot of positives with us from today because we really had to fight for our round. We will continue to learn from each day to help us play better tomorrow. If we can stay in the present, stay patient, play smart and take advantage of our opportunities then we will have an opportunity to do something great tomorrow.”
Sophomore Heather Lott improved two strokes upon her first round score of 2-over par 74 with an even-par, 72. Lott shot a 1-over par, 37 on her opening nine, bogeying the 406-yard par-4 eighth. Lott rebounded with birdies on holes No. 12 and No. 14, both par 4s, to move to 1-under on the round. A bogey on No. 18 however dropped Lott back to even par for the round. Lott’s performance moved her up in the standings from a tie for 35th-place to a tie for 18th.
Freshman Liz Breed continued her consistent play at the RedTail Golf Club. The only freshman on the team, Breed opened with a 3-over par, 75 on Sunday, and improved her play with a 2-over par, 74 on Monday. Breed moved up 11 spots in the standings from a tie for 45th place to a tie for 34th place out of the tournament’s 92 competing golfers.
Junior Ashlee Rose and sophomore Megan Moir each shot a 7-over par, 79. Rose stands at 8-over par for the tournament and Moir is at 9-over par.
Kentucky currently stands just three strokes out of third place overall, and four strokes out of second. Coastal Carolina is the tournament leader after two days, currently standing at 2-under par.
Tuesday’s final round will begin at 8:45 a.m. ET with a shotgun start.
