Still on holiday vacation, but since I’m now covering the men’s basketball game Tuesday against Coppin State, I thought it’d be a good time to catch up on a few notes before the game with some links.
– Kentucky checked in at No. 11 in this week’s Associated Press Top 25 and No. 12 in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches’ Poll. UK is the only Southeastern Conference team in the Coaches’ Poll; Vanderbilt is No. 24 in the AP Top 25. The UK women’s basketball team stayed at No. 11 in the AP Top 25. The Coaches’ Poll will be released Tuesday.
– In addition to Kentucky’s sweep of this week’s SEC weekly honors — Doron Lamb was named SEC Player of the Week and Brandon Knight was tabbed SEC Freshman of the Week — Lamb was also named this week’s ESPN.com Player of the Week. Lamb broke Jamal Mashburn’s single-game scoring mark for a freshman with 32 points against Winthrop.
– Lamb, who wasn’t available to the media after the Winthrop game last week because of holiday travel plans, was in town Sunday and spoke about his record-setting game against Coppin State (video courtesy of John Clay’s Sidelines blog). Clay also has video of head coach John Calipari’s pregame media availability.
– Matt May from The Cats Pause writes about Kentucky’s current seven-man rotation.
– General admission and public tickets are still available for the next two men’s basketball games vs. Coppin State (Dec. 28) and Penn (Jan. 3) through Ticketmaser. Tickets available for the eRUPPtion Zone must be purchased on game day starting 90 minutes before tipoff for $5 (cash only). One ticket purchase per person.
