LEXINGTON, Ky. – University of Kentucky head women’s golf coach Golda Johansson Borst announced Monday the signing of Sarah Schober as a member of the 2011 women’s golf class.

“We are very excited to have Sarah as a new member on our team,” Borst said. “She is the caliber player that we need at Kentucky to win championships and that is what we work toward every day.”

Schober, a Leibnitz, Austria native, is a member of the Austrian national team and is one of the top two ranked players in Austria. Schober was a member of the three-player team representing Austria in the World Amateur Team Championships held in Argentina.

Schober has competed in many premier tournaments across Europe, including the UNIQA Ladies Open, a Ladies European Tour Event, where she was one of three amateurs to earn an exemption. She shot a 75 in the first and second rounds.

Schober shot a 149 (73, 76) in the European Girls Championship and tied for 13th place at the European Ladies Individual Amateur Championship (70, 68, 71, 79). Schober shot a 153 (79, 74) in the European Nations Cup.

With a tournament scoring average of 73.38, Schober earned a third-place finish in the Austrian International Women’s Amateur Championship and an eighth-place finish in the German Girls Open.

“She is a complete athlete and I know she will do a great job representing the University of Kentucky,” Borst said. “Sarah is a strong player and she will bring a lot of experience to this team. I can’t wait for Sarah to get here because I know she has a bright future at Kentucky.”
