LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Kentucky women’s golf team completed second round action at the Southeastern Conference/Pacific-10 Women’s Golf Challenge with sophomore Betsie Johnson shooting a 2-over-par 73 to finish inside the top-20 on the leaderboard.

The Cats, as a team, shot a 308 in the second round, and currently sit in 15th place in a field that includes each of the top-four teams in the country, and 17 teams ranked in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin top-50 rankings.

“We got off to an OK start today but we were met with some adversity midway through the round,” UK head coach Golda Johansson Borst said. “Unfortunately we made some mental mistakes that cost us some shots. The round turned into a very tough day for the girls but I am happy that they never gave in to their frustration. They committed to every shot and kept their heads up.”

Johnson, after shooting a one-over-par 72 in the first round, opened her second round with two birdies in the first three holes and finished at three-over-par.

Sophomore Heather Lott also had a strong day, shooting a 2-over-par 73. Lott’s second round propelled her from a tie for 59th place to tie for 45th place out of the tournament’s 108 golfers.

“I am really proud of Heather and Betsie, they pulled through for us today when we really needed some leadership,” Borst said.

Sophomore Ashleigh Albrecht and senior Louise Ljungstedt each shot 10-over-par 81s on Saturday. Laura McGehee shot an 86.

The tournament will conclude Sunday with the final round beginning at 8:30 a.m. PT.
