LEXINGTON, Ky. – After posting a pair of season-opening wins over Murray State and Army, the Kentucky rifle team will return to action, hosting Ohio State and N.C. State on Saturday and UT Martin on Sunday at UK’s Barker Hall.
“I am looking for some continued solid performances,” UK head coach Harry Mullins said. “Most of the team has been working very hard this past week to work out some of the weak areas that they incountered in the last few matches. I am really pleased with the attitude of the overall team. And even though some of the shooters elevated themselves to new highs, they have not gotten complacent with their scores. They seem even more hungry now than before.
“The big test for us this weekend is not to chase scores but rather have another weekend of solid performances. This will be another weekend for us to work on and strengthen our physical and mental game.”
“I think as a team, everyone is chomping at the bit for tomorrow to be here,” UK assistant coach Stacy Underwood said. “We just came of two big performances last weekend and everyone is ready to do it all over again. We have had some rising stars step up last weekend in Ed and Stacy. I can’t wait for them and the rest of the team to improve upon their last performances.”
Kentucky (2-0, 1-0 Great American Rifle Conference) posted two wins last weekend to open the season, besting in-state rival Murray State before securing a conference win over Army.
The Wildcats were led during the weekend by standout performances from Heather Greathouse, Ed Ryznar, Stacy Wheatley and Logan Fox.
Fans can follow the action live through UKathletics.com, with an interactive live blog and a live feed of the targets.
“The new format for our live stats page is great for Kentucky fans,” Underwood said. “Anything that allows our fans to have better access to match coverage is a positive thing all around.”
“Overall I feel that the team is ready to continue with another solid performance,” Mullins said. “Ed Ryznar and Stacy Wheatley will get the call this week to shoot on the blue team for the first time. They performed very solid last week and this week in training, and they have earn a chance at helping the blue team reach a good number.”
