LEXINGTON, Ky. — After helping lead the Kentucky men’s soccer team to a tie with No. 16 Indiana and a crucial win over FIU in league play, freshman goalkeeper Tyler Beadle has been named Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week, announced Monday afternoon.

A native of Douglasville, Ga., Beadle had a dominating week in goal for the Wildcats. On Wednesday, Beadle saved five shots against the high-powered Hoosiers, helping UK to just its third tie vs. IU in program history. Beadle faced 21 IU shots in the game, repeatedly keeping UK in the game with near flawless play in goal.

Sunday, Beadle stepped up for the Wildcats in the biggest game of the year, helping UK post a 1-0 win over FIU, to remain in the hunt for the C-USA Tournament. Beadle saved four shots against FIU for his fourth shutout of the season.

On the year, Beadle has allowed 18 goals in his first 15 collegiate games, saving 53 shots and charting a 1.11 goals-against average. With 53 saves, Beadle is just six saves shy of cracking the top-10 list in UK single season history.

The C-USA Defensive Player of the Week award is the second of Beadle’s  young career, as he was tabbed with the honor in the first week of the season, charting two shutouts in his first two career games.

Kentucky (5-6-4, 2-1-2 C-USA) will return to action on Wednesday, traveling to face No. 22 Tulsa, with kickoff slated for 8 p.m. ET.
