LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Kentucky women’s tennis team finished play in the USTA/ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships in Knoxville, Tenn., with a semifinal finish in the main doubles draw, a round of 16 finish in the main singles draw and a finals appearance in the consolation singles draw.
Senior Megan Broderick and sophomore Jessica Stiles won one of the more dramatic and action packed matches of the entire tournament. In the main draw doubles quarterfinals, Broderick and Stiles went back and forth with Erica Robertson and Alex Leatu of Vanderbilt, before coming out victorious by a score of 9-8 (22-20). Broderick and Stiles bowed out in their semifinals match however, falling to Brynn Boren and Maria Sorbello of Tennessee, 8-5.
Freshmen Caitlin McGraw and Khristina Blajkevitch each won their two quarterfinals matches in the consolation singles draw to make up half of the draw’s final four. McGraw defeated Stephanie Mikesz of Memphis in the quarterfinals, 7-5, 7-5.
Blajkevitch advanced to the consolation singles final with her straight sets 6-4, 6-0 win over Tennessee’s Kayla McMurry in the semifinals. Blajkevitch fell in the championship 6-2, 6-1 to Vanderbilt’s Nelly Radeva.
The Cats will compete again Nov. 5-8 in the ITA National Intercollegiate. It will be Kentucky’s final tournament of the fall season.
