LEXINGTON, Ky. – Two days after posting a 3-1 upset of SEC West leader Alabama, the UK women’s soccer team (8-6-1, 2-4-1 SEC) hosts the West’s second ranked team in the Auburn Tigers.
The all-time series between the two schools is knotted up at 7-7-2, including UK’s 2-1 win on the Plains last year.
“Auburn is another great team,” UK head coach Jon Lipsitz said. “They are the only team to beat Florida in the SEC, so that shows you how good they are as a team. It will be a tough test. All we have to do is play our best. All we can worry about is ourselves and what happens, happens.”
The Kentucky-Auburn series has been one of streaks. After the first four match-ups alternatedvictories, the Wildcats went on a four-match winning streak against Auburn. The two teams fought to a 1-1 tie in 2003 and the Tigers then ripped off five straight before a 0-0 tie in 2008.The Wildcats hope to be starting a new streak after defeating the Tigers last year, 2-1.
The Tigers enter the match off a 1-1 tie at Vanderbilt on Friday.
Kickoff between the Cats and Tigers is set for 1:00 p.m. Live stats and blog will be available at UKathletics.com. It will be the first part of a UK soccer double header. Following the women’s match, the UK men’s soccer team takes on Memphis at 3:30 p.m.
