LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Kentucky women’s tennis team continued to advance in the USTA/ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships Friday, with senior Megan Broderick and sophomore Jessica Stiles advancing to the quarterfinals in the main doubles draw, and Broderick advancing to the round of 16 in the main singles draw.
Broderick and Stiles kept their winning ways going Friday by dispatching Riekie Honiball and Katie Thome of Miami (Ohio), 8-2. The win puts Broderick and Stiles in the final eight where they will face Erica Robertson and Alex Leatu of Vanderbilt.
Broderick was also victorious in her match in the main singles draw. Broderick took out Kayla Tuscany of Wright State in straight sets 6-1, 6-3. Broderick will face Whitney Wofford of Tennessee in the round of 16 Saturday.
Freshmen Caitlin McGraw, Marni Venter and Khristina Blajkevitch each advanced to the quarterfinals of the consolation singles draw after each picking up a pair of wins Friday.
An Orlando, Fla., native, McGraw defeated Shaina Singh of Chattanooga 7-6 (4), 6-4 in the round of 32. Then, in the round of 16 McGraw beat Taylor Coffey of Middle Tennessee State 6-4, 6-0.
Venter defeated Vanessa Whyte in straight sets 6-3, 6-2 in the round of 32. Venter then took down Alexis Webb of Murray State 6-4, 7-5.
Blajkevitch beat Emily Hangstefer of Chattanooga 6-3, 6-2 in her first match of the day. Blajkevitch followed that win with another win over Dora Kotsiou of Evansville, 6-0, 6-3.
The main doubles draw quarterfinals and semifinals will take place Saturday, along with consolation singles. The round of 16 main singles draw will also take place Saturday.
