LEXINGTON, Ky. — Henri Junghänel shot a 594 in air rifle and Ethan Settlemires contributed a 591 in air rifle, highlighting the Kentucky rifle preseason blue/white scrimmage, held Saturday at Barker Hall.
Kentucky got several outstanding performances in the scrimmage, including the top two air rifle scores from Junghänel and Settlemires. Senior Logan Fox also fired a 589 in air rifle, as the trio paced the blue team to a victory, 5806-5771. The blue team won in both guns, 2886-2855 in smallbore and 2920-2916 in air rifle.
“We saw some great performance this weekend,” UK head coach Harry Mullins said. “We are really looking for a good starting point to compare ourselves for the next two or three times we shoot for record. The scrimmage accomplished this. I was pleased with the effort and if we stay true to our plan we will be able to improve on the scores from this weekend with a solid foundation.”
Freshman Emily Holsopple, a native of Wilcox, Pa., totaled a 588 in air rifle to lead the white team. Katie Fretts (587), Heather Greathouse (586) and Megan English (583) contributed solid air rifle scores for the white squad. English led the white team in smallbore with a 581, with Greathouse adding a 577.
In smallbore for the blue team, Settlemires posted a 585, with Junaghänel (584) and Fox (582) helping pace the team.
“Everyone has been working really hard and it was nice for them to put everything together to see where they are before we start shooting our match schedule,” Mullins said. “I feel confident that if we continue to work this hard that we will post some of the numbers that we are looking for. Even though some of the shooters did not hit their goals, everyone learned a lot about themselves this weekend and the potential that they have for the future of the season.”
