LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky men’s tennis junior No. 8 Eric Quigley won the final four games of the first set and then continued his winning ways in the second set for a dominating, straight-sets victory over No. 13 Sanam Singh to advance to the semifinals of the D’Novo/ITA All-American Championships on Saturday.

In the first set, Quigley made an impressive come-from-behind effort for the win. The native of Pewee Valley, Ky., feel behind 3-0 in the set before posting back-to-back wins to cut Singh’s lead to one. With the match at 4-2 in Singh’s favor, Quigley turned on the pressure, gathering four consecutive games – including breaking Singh to claim the set – to claim the first set 6-4.

The UK junior kept the momentum going in the second set, posting a dominating 6-1 win. Quigley has now defeated Singh three times in the last two year, beating a ninth-ranked Singh in the 2009 ITA All-American Championships and a 12th-ranked Singh in UK’s dual-match victory over Virginia last season.   

With the win, Quigley advances to the semifinals of the tournament, which will be played Saturday afternoon. Quigley will play No. 45 Reid Carleton of Duke at 2 p.m.

The victory over No. 13 Singh is one of four wins over a top-44 ranked player in the tournament for the UK star. Quigley defeated No. 31 Neal Skupski of LSU (7-5, 6-1) in the opening round and followed that win with a victory over No. 44 Jamie Pulgar of North Carolina State (3-6, 6-3, 6-2.). On Friday, Quigley took down No. 28 John Peers of Baylor (4-6, 7-6 (3), 6-1), advancing to his second consecutive quarterfinal appearance at the ITA All-American Championships.
