LEXINGTON, Ky. — Junior Eric Quigley defeated two top-45 ranked players, including No. 31 Neal Skupski of LSU to advance to the third round of the D’Novo/ITA All-American Championships at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Okla., on Thursday.

Quigley, ranked eighth in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association preseason singles poll, started the day with an impressive 7-5, 6-1 win over No. 31 Skupski in the opening round. The native of Pewee Valley, Ky., followed his victory in the first round with a come-from-behind win in the second round against No. 44 Jamie Pulgar of N.C. State. Pulgar took an early lead in the match with a 6-3 advantage in the first set, but the UK All-American answered with convincing wins in the second and third sets to take the match 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.

The victory over Pulgar advances Quigley to the third round of the tournament, where he will square off with No. 28 John Peers of Baylor at 9 a.m. CT on court eight Friday. With a win, Quigley will head to the quarterfinals for the second year in a row. Peers made the third round by taking out Guillermo Gomez, the tournament’s No. 4 seed, in the first round.
