LEXINGTON, Ky. — Kentucky head coach Harry Mullins has set the lineups for the preseason blue/white rifle scrimmage, he announced on Tuesday morning.
“I am very excited to see how the two teams fair this weekend,” Mullins said. “Having each person contribute at least one score towards the overall team event will make it a little more competitive in that everybody has to bring their ‘A’ game. With this being the first time that we shoot a full match, our shooters are really going to have to work on getting their mental stamina up to the level that they want. Training has been going well these past few weeks and this time period is a good one to test what we have learned.”
The blue team will consist of Ethan Settlemires, Logan Fox, Sarah Broeker, Dayna Ferguson, Ed Ryznar and Henri Junghänel. The white team will consist of Emily Holsopple, Heather Greathouse, Megan English, Stacy Wheatley, James Jasis and Katie Fretts.
Fans are going to be able to follow the match online at UKathletics.com, with the UK rifle program continuing to offer the best in-match coverage in collegiate rifle. A live, interactive blog will be run throughout the match and fans can stay abreast of the match with Facebook, Twitter or Wildcat Alerts. In addition, Kentucky will have the targets available live on UKathletics.com.
“This is our first test as a team to measure our progress thus far,” UK assistant coach Stacy Underwood said. “This year our team has taken a different approach to training and the fall season by placing more emphasis on the fundamentals. Last weekend, our team got a little preview of the potential this team has. I believe this is the most focused, driven and well prepared our team has been during my time here.
The match will consist of the top five scores from each team, with all six team members used in the overall match. The match will consist of the regular 3×20 smallbore and 60 shots in air rifle, with time limits and match operations consistent with the regular season.
“Having this first team practice match run like an official match will be a great experience for our newcomers to experience the flow of a match day as well as the pressure of having the targets live on our website,” Mullins said. “Plus, fans will be able to get a sneak peak at how our team is shaping up.”
Kentucky opens the season on Oct. 22, hosting Murray State.
