LEXINGTON, Ky. – Junior wide receiver, quarterback, punt returner, kickoff returner and placekick holder Randall Cobb has been named as one of the nation’s most versatile performers of the week after gathering a career-high 267 all-purpose yards at Ole Miss, Paul Hornung and the Louisville Sports Commission announced Monday.
Cobb, a native of Alcoa, Tenn., had an outstanding game for UK against the Rebels, totaling 267 total yards. He had one receiving touchdown on a great catch at the goal line and held on to the ball despite having his helmet knocked off. Cobb also caught a two-point conversion pass. For the game, Cobb had 10 yards rushing, a career-high 108 yards receiving, 64 yards in kickoff returns, 85 yards in punt returns and made accurate holds on field goals of 50 and 42 yards.
On the season, Cobb is second on the team in rushing with 13 rushes for 121 yards and a touchdown and first on the team in receiving with 25 receptions for 335 yards and three touchdowns. The junior is second on the team in scoring with 32 points and first in punt returns (12.2-yard average) and is averaging 20.9 yards on kickoff returns. Cobb has had his hand in at least one touchdown in every game this season.
The Ole Miss game marks the third time in five games that Cobb has earned a weekly honor for the Hornung Award.
Cobb was named to the inaugural Paul Hornung Award Watch List given to college football’s most versatile player earlier this season. The do-it-all player entered the season with several preseason awards, including four as an all-purpose player, four as a punt returner and one as a running back. Recently, Cobb was named the National Punt Returner of the Week by College Football Performance Awards for his performance vs. Western Kentucky University, in which he returned a punt for a touchdown.
