LEXINGTON, Ky. — Three members of the University of Kentucky men’s tennis team, including No. 8 Eric Quigley and No. 32 Alex Musialek are set to play in the 2010 D’Novo/ITA All-American Championships at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Tulsa, starting Thursday.
Quigley and Musialek will play in the singles main draw after receiving one of 48 automatic qualifying nods into the singles championship. Senior Brad Cox and Quigley, ranked eighth in the Intercollegiate preseason doubles poll will play in the doubles main draw, gathering one of 24 automatic qualifying spots into the doubles championship.
All three players will be in action Thursday, with Quigley starting the action at 8 a.m. in the first round of the singles main draw. Quigley, the eighth seed in the tournament, will face Neal Skupski of LSU in the opening round with the winner advancing to play in a second-round match at 1 p.m. Musialek also will play at 8 a.m., squaring off against Clint Bowles of Florida State. The winner of Musialek and Bowles will play in the second round at 12:30 p.m.
Quigley and Cox, the seventh-seeded doubles team in tournament, will play in the doubles main draw Thursday. The UK duo will play Nicholas Andrews and Jonathan Dahan of California in the opening round at 6 p.m. All times are local.
Quigley and Musialek are coming off of strong weekends at the Land Rover Napa Valley Tennis Classic, where both players advanced out of group play to make a deep run in the United States Tennis Association Wildcard Shootout. Quigley made it to the championship match of the event before falling to top-10 ranked Alex Lacroix of Florida, who took out Musialek in the semifinals as well.
Cox, who become the first player in school history to play in the NCAA Doubles Championship his first three seasons at Kentucky, played in UK’s first fall tournament at the UNLV Invitational. Cox, along with Quigley, advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Double Championship last year, giving Cox All-America status.
