LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Kentucky women’s golf team will play in its second tournament of the fall season this weekend when it competes in the William K. Warren Irish Invitational (6,079 yards, par 72).
The Cats will head out to South Bend, Ind., for the two-day tournament featuring a dozen other teams in addition to the Cats. UK will be competing against Cincinnati, Georgia State, Illinois, Indiana, Kent State, Louisville, Maryland, Michigan, Ohio State, Toledo, Texas-San Antonio and Notre Dame, the tournament host.
Kentucky head coach Golda Johansson Borst is going with the lineup of Ashlee Rose, Ashleigh Albrecht, Megan Moir, Betsie Johnson and Heather Lott. Senior Louise Ljungstedt will compete as an individual for the Cats.
“I believe we have a strong, experienced and talented lineup for this upcoming tournament,” Borst said. “They have all worked hard in the last couple of weeks and I know we are ready to go to Notre Dame and play our best.”
Kentucky is coming off a top-10 finish in their first tournament of the season at the Cougar Classic in Hanahan, S.C. Albrecht, a sophomore from Murrieta, Calif., led the Cats with an eight-over par 224 (74,77, 73 – 224). Johnson had a tie for the low round of the tournament for the Cats with her one-under par 71 on the tournament’s final day.
Play at the William K. Warren Irish Invitational will begin Saturday at 9 a.m. with a 36-hole shotgun start, and conclude Sunday with an 18-hole shotgun start. The tournament will be held at William K. and Natalie O. Warren Golf Course at Notre Dame. The course, unveiled May 1, 2000, has been proclaimed as one of the best in America by Golf Digest.
“I have heard great things about the Warren Golf Course in South Bend and I am excited to finally get to see it,” Borst said. “This is also one of the regional sites for the NCAA in the spring so it will be good for this team to play the course in case we get sent there for Regionals. The field is going to be strong, but I feel confident this group can handle any challenge that comes their way.”
