LEXINGTON, Ky. — The University of Kentucky men’s golf team took some time off last week, inviting some junior golfers from Morton Middle School out to the University Club for an afternoon of golf.
Head coach Brian Craig, associate head coach David Trainor and the entire 2010-11 men’s golf team talked with the middle school students about staying in school and making good grades, while also sharing insights on the game of golf. Craig talked to the students about the fun in playing golf and how it teaches life lessons on character and integrity.
“We had a great afternoon playing golf with the Morton Middle School golf team at the University Club,” Craig said. “The kids were a joy to be around and our guys thoroughly enjoyed playing nine holes with them in a fun format.”
Almost 30 students came out from Morton Middle School, located near the UK campus in Lexington to interact with the student-athletes and coaches. After the coaches talked with the students, the middle school kids were split into groups and sent out on the course for nine holes of golf with a member of the UK golf team.
“Playing with the kids from Morton Middle was great because it gave us a chance to go out on the course and have fun and relax without competition, which is not something that we always get to do,” sophomore Chase Parker said.
