LEXINGTON, Ky. – Senior fullback Moncell Allen and junior linebacker Danny Trevathan have been named game captains for the Florida game this weekend, first-year head coach Joker Phillips has announced.
Game captains are usually chosen on the basis of performance in the previous game. Allen has been a key part of UK’s impressive rushing attack so far this season, giving Kentucky a huge blocking presence on the perimeter, as the Wildcats have rushed for more than 200 yards in each of the first three games. A native of New Orleans, La., Allen has rushed four times for 17 yards this season and caught one pass for 15 yards and a touchdown.
Trevathan, a native of Leesburg, Fla., has led UK in tackles all three games this season, posting 11 against Louisville, six against WKU and eight last weekend against Akron. The junior leads the team in total tackles with 25 and tackles-for-loss with six for -18 yards. Trevathan is averaging two tackles-for-loss a game, good for second in the Southeastern Conference and top 10 in the nation.
Allen and Trevathan will join permanent captains Randall Cobb and DeQuin Evans at the pregame coin toss.
Allen, Hines Doubtful for Florida Game:
Moncell Allen and junior offensive tackle Stuart Hines are doubtful for the Florida game this weekend because of injuries, Phillips announced at his weekly news conference Monday.
Allen suffered a hamstring injury in the Akron game, while Hines has an ankle injury. Junior safety Taiedo Smith is listed as questionable. Senior defensive end DeQuin Evans, senior tailback Derrick Locke and freshman linebacker Avery Williamson are listed as day-to-day for the Florida game.
