LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky caps off its home SEC kickoff weekend with South Carolina on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET. The match will air live on CWKYT (Lexington) and Fox Sports South. The Wildcats (6-5, 0-1) and Gamecocks both suffered SEC opening losses on Friday night.

Junior Ann Armes led the Wildcats with 16 kills in a loss to No. 3 Florida in the opening match of the SEC season. With the 16 hammers it sets a career-high for the junior from Grand Island, Neb. She also paced the squad with nine digs in the match – just narrowly missing her first career double-double.

South Carolina enters the matchup with the Wildcats holding a 2-8 overall record including a 3-1 loss to Tennessee to begin the SEC season. The Gamecocks are led by Juliette Thevenin with 3.40 kills per frame on .238 hitting. South Carolina’s Hannah Lawing paces the defense with 5.33 digs per stanza.

Kentucky has owned the series in recent years winning the last six meetings between the squads. UK has also won 11 of the last 12 in the series as well and owns an all-time record of 24-17 over the Gamecocks.

In the final 2009 meeting between the teams, UK earned a 3-0 (25-13, 25-19, 25-12) victory behind the defensive prowess of Gretchen Giesler and the offensive production from Lauren Rapp. With the victory Kentucky achieved its 27th win of the season to up its win total for the fifth consecutive season under head coach Craig Skinner.

Kentucky turned in another complete team effort to earn the victory. Giesler rejected nine South Carolina attacks and Rapp led the offense with 11 kills on a match-high .611 hitting percentage.

Rapp scorched the Gamecocks with a match-high 11 kills on a sizzling .611 hitting percentage. She accounted for her kill total on just 18 attempts with no errors. Blaire Hiler chipped in with eight. Giesler led the front line defense with the nine blocks, but she also added seven kills to score a match-best 12.5 points on the night.
