IRVING, Texas — After recording a pair of clean sheets in his first collegiate action, freshman goalkeeper Tyler Beadle has been named Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week, it was announced by the league office Tuesday afternoon.

A native of Douglasville, Ga., Beadle had a breakout weekend in his first college action, posting two perfect shutouts. During the weekend, Beadle was flawless in both games, toiling clean sheets on Friday and Sunday, stretching UK’s streak of 211 consecutive minutes without allowing a goal, dating back to the 2009 season. In his first career game, Beadle saved two shots against Eastern Illinois and faced four total efforts. He then helped the Wildcats to clinch the UK Invitational, saving two more shots and facing six attempts on Sunday.

Beadle won the goalkeeper job in the preseason, part of a four-way competition to replace graduated four-year starter Dan Williams, one of the more decorated goalkeepers in school annals. Beadle registered starts in three preseason games with solid performances, clinching the starting job for the weekend opener.

Kentucky will return to action on Friday, hosting the Wildcat Invitational. UK will open with Loyola Marymount on Friday at 7:30 p.m. ET and will host Houston Baptist on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. ET at the UK Soccer Complex.
