BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Kentucky volleyball team was picked to finish third in the Southeastern Conference preseason vote by the league’s 11 coaches announced Wednesday.
The Tennessee Volunteers were selected to win the SEC title with nine league coaches giving their vote to the Lady Vols. Florida garnered the other two first place votes.
Tennessee was tapped to win the SEC East followed by Florida and Kentucky. LSU, the reigning SEC Champions, were picked to capture the SEC Western Division with Auburn tallying enough votes to finish second in the preseason selection.
Kentucky won the SEC Eastern crown a year ago for the first time in program history.Points were compiled on a 1-2-3-4-5-6 basis for the Western Division and 1-2-3-4-5 for the Eastern Division. Coaches were not allowed to vote for his or her own team and each coach also voted for one team as an overall conference champion.
The Wildcats begin their 2010 campaign Sat., Aug. 28 when they travel to take part in the Runza/AVCA Showcase in Omaha, Neb. The 14th-ranked Wildcats will begin the year in a matchup with second-ranked Nebraska at 5:30 p.m. ET.
