LEXINGTON, Ky. — For the second consecutive season, the University of Kentucky men’s golf team has been named an All-Academic team by the Golf Coaches Association of America, the organization announced Monday.

The honor is given to men’s golf teams that hold a grade point average of 3.0 or higher for the season. This is the second year for the honor, with the Wildcats being named to the list both seasons.

“I am really proud of our student-athletes for continuing to work hard in the classroom,” said head coach Brian Craig. “We have won countless academic awards during my time here and we will continue to put emphasis on academics moving forward.”

Kentucky is one of only 64 Division I men’s golf teams to receive the honor. UK was also one of four Southeastern Conference schools to receive the award, joining Auburn, Florida and Vanderbilt.

Earlier this year, Kentucky posted a total of 10 golfers on the Academic All-SEC team, including Joseph Barr, Jordan Blann, Seth Blann, Chase Carpenter, James Kania, Michael Kania, Mads Kristensen, Cody Martin, Derek Oldham and Alex Volpenhein.

The men’s golf team was also selected as the Male Academic Team of the Year at the annual UK CATSPY Awards dinner. The CATSPY Awards are held every year at UK to honor athletes and athletic teams for accomplishments they have made during the athletic season. It marked the second consecutive year UK has won the award.

On the course, the Wildcats are preparing for the fall portion of their 2010 schedule. UK starts its season by co-hosting the Wolf Run Intercollegiate with Indiana, starting Sept. 11.
