LEXINGTON, Ky.- Top Kentucky players Megan Broderick and Eric Quigley fell in the first round of the main draw at the Fifth Third Bank Tennis Championships on Tuesday after receiving wildcards.

Broderick, a Tampa, Fla. native, faced Kurumi Nara of Japan, the top-seeded player in the tournament. Nara, ranked 112th in the Women’s Tennis Association, defeated the incoming senior 6-0, 6-1 in the feature match of Big Blue Night at the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Center.

Earlier Tuesday, Eric Quigley (Pewee Valley, Ky.) resumed play from a match suspended due to rain Monday with Alex Bogomolov Jr. The match was paused at 4-3 on serve for Bogomolov. The first set stayed tight and ended at 7-5 for Bogomolov. Quigley could not quite get a hold of Bogomolov in the second set and ended the match 5-7, 0-6.

While Broderick and Quigley will not move forward in singles, Broderick will join Georgia Tech star Irina Falconi in the women’s doubles draw. The pair will take on Kimberly Couts and Tetiana Luzhanska, the No. 2 seed in the tournament. The match time is set to be played not before 7 p.m. ET as the feature match.

Big Blue Night also featured a local celebrity exhibition match. The match featured UK men’s basketball graduate Mark Krebs and former UK men’s basketball great Kyle Macy against men’s tennis associate head coach Cedric Kauffmann and former Kentucky football player Marcus McClinton.
