HOOVER, Ala. — Kentucky junior second baseman Chris Bisson has been selected second-team All-Southeastern Conference in a voting of the conference coaches, it was announced by the league office during the live “SEC BP Show” on SECsports.com, Tuesday afternoon at Regions Park.
A native of Orleans, Ontario, the honor is the second consecutive second-team All-SEC honor for Bisson, who became the first Kentucky player since catcher John Wilson in 1999-2000 to earn All-SEC accolades in back-to-back seasons. Bisson is the first UK second baseman to earn All-SEC accolades in back-to-back seasons since MLB infielder Terry Shumpert was named first-team All-SEC in 1986-87.
Bisson, a 5-foot-11, left-handed hitter, batted .329 (69-for-210) in 51 games this season, missing five games after suffering a broken nose on a pitch during the third weekend of the season. Bisson finished the regular-season with a staggering 32 stolen bases in 39 attempts, leading the SEC and becoming the first UK player to steal 30 or more bases in a season since Chad Green stole a school-record 56 in 1996. A preseason All-America selection by Baseball America, Bisson led the team with 12 doubles, adding one triple, five homers and 35 RBI, pacing the team with 28 walks.
In his career, Bisson has played in 131 games and started 115, batting .325 (157-for-483) with 101 runs, 24 doubles, four triple, seven homers and 91 RBI, stealing 48-of-60 bases. Last season, Bisson led UK in nearly every offensive category, batting .360 (80-for-222) with nine doubles, three triples, two homers and 52 RBI, stealing 13-of-15 bases.
