Track & Field

LEXINGTON, Ky. –

The University of Kentucky track and field team readies for the four-day SEC Outdoor Track and Field Championships, May 13-16 in Knoxville, Tenn.

Hosted by the University of Tennessee, meet competition begins Thursday, May 13 at 3:30 p.m. with the women’s pentathlon, and concludes Sunday evening with the men and women’s 4×400-meter relays. All championship competition will take place at the Tom Black Track at LaPorte Stadium.

Coach Don Weber says the championships are the time of year where the core of the season’s work is tested.

“The regular season is similar to an extensive practice session all leading up to the big meet, the championships. This is ultimately what we train for and hope we can excel in clutch time,” Weber says. “I’d like to see our athletes make an impact at this level and contest for a championship.”

Live meet results and all SEC Outdoor Track and Field Championship information can be found at UTsports.com.

Tickets can be purchased at the stadium’s main gate entrance or at the HPER Building breezeway along Andy Holt Avenue.
Prices for a four-day, all-session pass are $20 for adults and $10 for age 13 to college students (with I.D.). Single day tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for age 13 to college students (with I.D.). Admission is free to those 12 and under.

Precious Nwokey and Ashley Newby are the first athletes to step on stage for Kentucky. They will kick off the competition with the Heptathlon event Thursday afternoon beginning with four of the seven events, including the 100m hurdles, high jump, shot put and 200m dash.

ESPNU offers a chance for this 42-event competition to be relived, as a tape-delayed broadcast will be nationally televised on May 25 at 9 p.m. ET.
