LEXINGTON, Ky. —
For the second time this season University of Kentucky track and field athlete Cally Macumber was named Southeastern Conference Female Freshman of the Week for her performance at the Penn Relays it was announced by the league office Tuesday.
In Philadelphia, under the lights of Franklin Field, freshman Cally Macumber put together the best performance of her young career during the 5,000-meter Championship. Competing against the best runners on the collegiate level, Macumber finished 13th out of 36 competitors with a time of 16:43.61.
Macumber has improved every time she has taken the track this season, cutting 53 seconds off her time set at the beginning of the season. Macumber has a current time of 16:43.61, placing her fourth in the SEC in the 5,000m run and first among freshmen.
A native of Rochester Hills, Mich., Macumber is coming off All-SEC honors in both cross country and indoor track and field during her inaugural season at UK. The freshman has the opportunity to receive SEC honors during all three season during the 2009-10 athletic year if she does well at this year’s SEC outdoor championships.
