LEXINGTON, Ky. – UK head women’s soccer coach Jon Lipsitz announced the addition of Carys Hawkins to his 2010 roster on Wednesday.

Hawkins, a 5-6 defender from Scarborough, Western Australia transferred from Mercedes College in Australia, where she was a two-time team captain. A member of the Perth Glory in the national league as well as the Northern Redbacks Premier team, Hawkins also played on the Young Matildas, the Australian Junior National Team.

“We are very impressed with Carys and expect her to come in and help our back line immediately,” said Lipsitz. “Her youth national team experience has given her composure and leadership qualities that we need as we will be very young in 2010 (only 3 seniors on roster).”

She is the first Australian to play women’s soccer at UK and pushes the incoming class of 2010 to 16.
