LEXINGTON, Ky. — The 11th-ranked University of Kentucky men’s tennis team won its second match of day posting a 5-1 win over Murray State on Wednesday night. Earlier in the day, Kentucky gathered its fifth win over a top-16 ranked team defeating No. 13 Illinois 4-3.

The five wins over highly ranked opponents help Kentucky (18-7) build its case for playing host to an NCAA regional when the tournament gets underway in six weeks.

UK earned singles wins from five players in the Murray State match, including senior Alex Lambropoulos, sophomores Eric Quigley, Graeme Dyce and Chris Leeper, and freshman Anthony Rossi.

Lambropoulos, playing in the No. 2 singles spot, used a comeback effort to claim the victory. The native of Lake Forest, Ill., fell behind early in the match losing the first set 4-6 but responded with great tennis the final two sets to record the 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 win over Jorge Caetano.

Quigley posted his second straight-sets win of the day, defeating Ben Clos 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1 singles. Quigley, who has won over 60 matches in just two year as a Wildcat, made quick work of Clos in both the first and second sets. The sophomore surrendered only three games to Clos during the entire match.

Fellow sophomore Graeme Dyce also recorded a win, charting a 6-4, 6-2 victory at No. 4 singles over Renaldo Domoney. Dyce, a native of Scotland, had to fight for the first set against Domoney but made easy work of the Racer in the second set.

Sophomore Chris Leeper put together the most dominating performance of the match for Kentucky, getting a 6-0, 6-0 straight-sets victory at No. 6 singles over Clay Walker. Leeper, a native of Paducah, Ky., cruised to his second victory of the season.

Sophomore Anthony Rossi capped off a successful day on the courts with his second singles win of the day. The native of France, defeated Luka Milicevic 6-3, 6-1 for the straight-sets win.

The two teams elected to play singles matches first and only play doubles if it was necessary.

Kentucky returns to Southeastern Conference play Friday and Sunday when it travels to LSU and Arkansas. The Wildcats will square off against the Tigers on Friday at 3 p.m. ET and Arkansas on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. ET. Live stats will be available on ukathletics.com.
