DOVE CANYON, Calif. – Behind freshman Ashleigh Albrecht’s sixth-place 10-over-par 223 (75-75-73), the University of Kentucky women’s golf team finished the Anteater Invitational in third place at 912 (311-294-307) Tuesday at Dove Canyon Country Club (par 71, 5,960 yards).

Entering the final round tied for ninth, Albrecht started the second day of competition strong, carding birdies on three of her opening four holes. Returning to her home state, the Murietta, Calif., native finished the opening nine with an even-par 36 and went 2-over on the back nine. It marks the second top-10 performance of Albrecht’s young career as she finished tied for eighth at Kentucky’s Bettie Lou Evans Fall Invitational in September.

Sophomore Ashlee Rose secured the second top-20 score for the Wildcats with a 229 (77-73-79) to finish in 19th place. Coming in just behind Rose, freshman Heather Lott carded a 230 (77-75-78) to finish tied for 20th. Rose earned her third top-20 finish of the season at the event while Lott registered her second.

Carding Kentucky’s best round of the tournament with a second-round 71, freshman Betsie Johnson placed in a tie for 32nd behind a 236 (84-71-81). Senior Kristin Vincent rounded out Kentucky’s starting five with a 238 (82-79-77).

Competing for the Wildcats as an individual, senior Sara Hurwitch fired a 14-over-par 227 (79-72-76) to take a share of 14th. With three each, Hurwitch and Rose tie for the most top-20 performances this season for the Wildcats.

San Diego State took the tournament title with an 899 (300-299-300), while Idaho’s Kayla Mortellaro posted a 1-over-par 214 (71-75-68) to take the individual crown. Kentucky’s second-round 294 marked the lowest team score of the event.

Next, the Wildcats head to Gainesville, Fla., for the Gator Women’s Golf Invitational on April 10-11. The event marks the final regular-season tournament for UK before heading to the Southeastern Conference Championship held April 16-18 in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
