LEXINGTION, Ky. — The University of Kentucky women’s tennis team will break from its Southeastern Conference schedule to host regional opponents Eastern Kentucky University and East Tennessee State University. The Wildcats face the Colonels of EKU and the Buccaneers of ETSU in a doubleheader at the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Center on Tuesday, March 23 at 11 p.m. and 5 p.m. ET, respectively.
It will be a welcome vacation from the grueling SEC slate for Kentucky. Senior Christine Johnston and junior Megan Broderick hope to continue their winning streak on the doubles court. Most recently, the duo upset No. 18 Rosalía Alda and Zsofia Zubor 8-6 when the Lady Vols were in town. The No. 1 doubles team from ETSU is Yevegeniya Stupak and Kelly Holtzhausen, which is currently the No. 78 doubles team in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings.
The Wildcats have a 12-0 all-time record against the Colonels and 12-0 against the Buccaneers. In 2008, Kentucky only allowed one point to slip away between both matches.
EKU enters Tuesday’s match with a 7-10 tally while ETSU boasts a 10-3 record. When the Colonels met the Buccaneers on Jan. 23 earlier this season, ETSU reined supreme, winning 7-0.
