NEW ORLEANS – Freshmen Ashleigh Albrecht and Heather Lott led the University of Kentucky women’s golf team in the final round of the Tiger/Wave Classic at English Turn Golf and Country Club (6,132 yards, par 72) on Sunday, each posting a 5-over-par 77 in the Wildcat’s 20th-place 946 (208-326-312) performance.
Albrecht paced the Wildcats throughout the tournament and finished as Kentucky’s lowest scorer. With a 13-over-par 229 (74-78-77), Albrecht placed in a tie for 36th overall. Lott, making her spring debut, came in behind Albrecht with a 236. With a 2-under-par 34, Lott tallied four birdies on the back nine, scoring on four of her first six holes.
Sophomore Ashlee Rose (240) finished as Kentucky’s third-lowest scorer after recording an 80 on each round. Freshman Betsie Johnson registered a 248 (78-92-78), while senior Kristin Vincent ended the event with a 256 (89-85-82).
The Wildcats joined a competitive field at the Tiger/Wave Classic, as 16 of the nation’s top 50 teams participated. Kentucky also faced Southeastern Conference opponents Auburn, Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia, Mississippi, Vanderbilt, Arkansas and Mississippi State.
Next, the Wildcats travel to Dove Canyon, Calif., March 29-30 for the 2010 Anteater Invitational.
