LEXINGTON, Ky – The 15th-ranked University of Kentucky gymnastics won three events and senior Emily Green (Penfield, N.Y.) won two event titles as the Wildcats (194.650) defeated visiting Illinois State (193.275) and George Washington (191.150) on “Senior Night” at Memorial Coliseum.
Kentucky (6-6) won three of four team events, posting a 49.025 on vault, 48.800 on balance beam and 48.825 on floor exercise. Illinois Stated edged the Wildcat on the uneven bars 48.250-48.000.
UK’s Green won her fifth floor exercise title of the season with a 9.900 and finished first on the balance beam with a 9.850.
Teammate Hillary Ferguson (Richmond, Ky.) took second on the floor exercise at 9.850 while Kentucky’s Phylicia Reshard (West Chester, Ohio) and Andre Mitchell (Knoxville, Tenn.) tied for third on the floor with a 9.750.
Illinois State’s Hannah Deutsch (9.825) and Melissa Mann (9.800) took second and third, respectively, on the balance beam.
UK’s Mitchell claimed her second all-around title of the season with a 38.925. Mitchell finished ahead of Illinois State’s Erica Schick (38.850) and George Washington’s Megan Quinn (38.500).
The Wildcats swept the vault with sophomore Whitney Rose (Frisco, Texas) claiming her sixth title on the apparatus this season with a 9.875. Four gymnasts tied for second with Kentucky’s Mitchell, Reshard and Ferguson matching Illinois State’s Tori Sarantakis with a 9.800 score.
Tonight’s meet marked Kentucky’s final regular-season home contest of the 2010 campaign with seniors Jacque Behrendt (Franklin, Tenn.), Jamie Reimann (Johnston, Iowa), Ferguson, Green and Rymer receiving recognition prior to the competition.
The Wildcats travel across the country to face highly ranked Oregon State on March 19 at 10 p.m. EST. UK competes at the Southeastern Conference Championships on March 27.
