INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The NCAA announced the field of participants for the 2010 Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships beginning March 25 in Columbus, Ohio, on the campus of Ohio State. Kentucky will be represented by six athletes, Elvis Burrows, Alex Forbes, Kyle Greene, Warren Grobbelaar, Eric McGinnis and Tyler Reed.

The Wildcats are set for an incredible weekend of swimming and diving action, with several of UK’s athletes ranked in the top-16 heading into the competition in a little more than two weeks time.

Kentucky as two relay events ranked in the top-five nationally. The men’s 400-freestyle relay holds the fourth best time nationally with a clip of 2:51.64. The 200-free relay holds the fifth best time with a time of 1:17.76 in the event. Both relays earned medals at the 2010 Southeastern Conference Championships in late February.

Greene and Reed will both compete in three individual events to lead the team. Greene had a tremendous conference meet where he placed in the top-eight in all three individual events to pace the squad.

The Wildcats have five athletes set to swim in the 50-free in Columbus. McGinnis ranks sixth nationally with a clip of 19.39. Greene also is among the top-16 times in that nation with a 19.68 time in the event which ranks 15th. Forbes (19.87) holds the 31st best time, Burrows (20.07) the 48th and Grobbelaar (20.11) the 52nd.

UK will also have five athletes among the field in the 100-free. Greene leads the team with the eighth best time at 42.94. Reed ranks 20th with a clip of 43.37. McGinnis (43.63) holds the 30th best time, Forbes (43.71) the 36th best mark and Burrows (44.33) the 56th.

In the 200-free, Reed a 2009 All-America selection in the event after a top-16 finish a year ago, ranks 15th nationally with a time of 1:35.10 heading into this year’s meet. Greene is 28th with a clip of 1:36.05.

Grobbelaar holds the 18th best time in the 100-butterfly with a time of 46.80. Two seasons ago, Grobbelaar was a top-16 finisher in the event. Burrows is 28th among the field with a time of 47.10. The duo holds the top two times in the event in school history.

Rounding out the individual field is Reed in the 500-free. The Kentucky native holds the 32nd best time in the event with a clip of 4:20.89.
