Lexington, Ky. – Select athletes from Kentucky’s men and women’s track and field team will compete in three indoor qualifiers to increase its chances in qualifying for the NCAA Track and Field Championships March 12-13 in Fayetteville, Ark. The Cats will disperse to the Alex Wilson Invitational, the Iowa State Qualifier and the Virginia Tech Final Qualifier, this weekend March 5-6.

The trio of meets will serve as the final means for those athletes not already qualified for the NCAA Championships the chance to do so.

Notre Dame will play host to the Alex Wilson Invitational in North Bend, Ind., beginning Friday, March 5 at 5 p.m. EST. Visit www.und.com for meet information and results.

Iowa State is the host team for the Iowa State Qualifier in Ames, Iowa. The one-day event will take place at the Lied Recreation Center Saturday, March 6. Follow the Cats’ here at www.cyclone.com.

Competition for the Virginia Tech Qualifier will take place at the Rector Field House in Blacksburg, Va., Saturday, March 6. Go to www.hokiesports.com for meet results.

The Wildcats are coming off an SEC Championship weekend where both the men and women’s teams finished in ninth place.

Senior thrower Kristen Smith won the SEC title in the weight throw with an NCAA provisional qualifying throw of 19.98m.

Thrower Ashley Muffet earned a fourth-place finish in the women’s shot put with a throw of 16.73m, while men’s shot putter Colin Boevers grabbed third place with a mark of 17.13m.

Sprinter Jenna Martin finished in third place in the 400m dash with a NCAA provisional qualifying time of 53.76. Men’s team middle distance runner Sharif Webb ran a 1:49.84 in the men’s 800m final, also earning a third-place title.

Competing in the Alex Wilson Invitational for the Wildcats will be distance runners Trent Halasek, Josh Nadzam, Patrick McGregor and Sharif Webb.

The women’s sprint squad of Brittany Cabbler, Jenna Martin, Jazmyn Shorter and Precious Nwokey will travel to the Iowa State Qualifier while senior sprinter, Kwasi Obeng will be the only representative for the men’s team.

Traveling to the Virginia Tech Qualifier is the men’s and women’s jumps and throws crews. Mary Angell, Kristin Smith and Jennifer Svoboda will throw for the women whiles Colin Boevers will throw for the men. Ke’Undra Bishop will compete in the long jump event for the women while David Banks, Steve Crouse and Keenan Hall will compete for the men.
