LEXINGTON, Ky. — After falling to No. 3 Ohio State last weekend, the University of Kentucky men’s tennis team looks to rebound Sunday in doubleheader action against Jacksonville State and Belmont in Birmingham, Ala.
The matches are being hosted by Samford University in the Pat M. Courington Tennis Pavilion.
Jacksonville State (1-4) will be the first opponent of the day for the Wildcats with the match scheduled to start at 11 a.m. ET. The Gamecocks lone victory this season was a 7-0 win at Alabama State.
Kentucky (7-4) will have a short turnaround for the next match, having to face Belmont (4-2) at 3:30 p.m. ET. The Bruins are coming off a loss at home to Samford 4-3.
Kentucky is fresh off reaching its highest ranking since the 2002 season, coming in at No. 8 in the International Tennis Association poll on Tuesday. UK moved up one spot in the poll this week after coming in No. 9 in the previous week’s poll. The last time the Wildcats were ranked eighth in the country was in 2002, when they finished the season with an eighth-place ranking.
The Wildcats are coming off a 5-2 setback at No. 3 Ohio State on Feb. 21. With the loss, Kentucky fell to 4-4 on the season against ranked teams with wins against No. 2 Virginia, No. 13 Illinois, No. 16 Wake Forest and No. 41 Michigan.
UK sophomores Eric Quigley (Pewee Valley, Ky.) and Alex Musialek (Dax, France) are ranked eighth and No. 29, respectively, among singles players. The UK doubles tandem of Quigley and junior Brad Cox (Duluth, Ga.) is listed at No. 14.
