MIAMI LAKES, Fla. – After two rounds of the Hurricane Invitational held at Don Shula’s Golf Resort (6,210 yards, par 72), the University of Kentucky women’s golf team stands 11th place with a 613 (310, 303) after shooting a 15-over-par 303 Monday.
Registering a 3-over-par 75, senior Kristin Vincent led the Wildcats in the second round. Vincent currently stands in a tie for 22nd behind a 77 in the first round.
Fellow senior Sara Hurwitch was Kentucky’s second scorer, also recording a 75. With a 79 in opening-round action, Hurwitch enters the third round in a tie for 37th.
Freshmen Betsie Johnson and Ashleigh Albrecht finished the second day tied for 44th. Posting a 79 in the second round, Johnson began the day as the top Wildcat after shooting a 76 Sunday. Albrecht recorded an 81 in the first round, but bounced back Monday and fired Kentucky’s low round of the day with a 72.
Sophomore Ashlee Rose shot a 78 in the first round and registered an 83 on the second day of action.
Kentucky opens play for the third and final round of action Tuesday with an 8:30 a.m. EST shotgun start. The Wildcats are set to play 18 holes.
Georgia State leads the tournament with a 592 (292, 300), while San Diego State’s Christine Wong stands as the top individual after posting a 1-under-par 143 (69, 74).
Joining Kentucky at the Hurricane Invitational are: UCF, Charleston Southern, Coastal Carolina, Eastern Michigan, East Tennessee State, Georgia State, Illinois State, James Madison, Miami, Memphis, Mercer, NC State, Oklahoma City, San Diego State, USF, Southern Miss and Texas State.
Kentucky wrapped up the fall season in November at the Challenge at Onion Creek. Finishing with an 873 (291-296-284), the Wildcats placed 11th.
After the Hurricane Invitational, the Wildcats travel to Valdosta, Ga., to co-host the Challenge at Kinderlou Forest with Kennesaw State. Held at Kinderlou Forest Golf Course, this year’s competition marks the tournament’s debut.
