Rod McCravy Memorial Results (PDF)

LEXINGTON, KY – The University of Kentucky track and field teams brought the Rod McCravy Memorial meet to a close with one automatic NCAA provisional qualifier, four provisional qualifiers and a new school record.

Senior sprinter Rondel Sorrillo earned the first automatic NCAA provisional qualifying time for the Wildcats this season. Sorrillo ran a 20.77 in the 200-meter dash, which currently stands as the top time in the nation. Today’s time of 20.77 is only .05 away from Sorrillo’s personal best and the UK varsity school record set by Sorrillo in 2009.

Head coach Don Weber reminded the Wildcats after the meet that the importance of each meet is to continue getting better.

“Our main focus and interest is being better,” Weber said. “Today we had a significant amount of people who took a step forward and did just that.”

Senior thrower Colin Boevers threw a personal best to earn a second place finish in the shot put with an NCAA provisional meet mark of 17.66/ 57-11.25.

Women’s sprinter Jazmyn Shorter finished in second place of the 200m dash with a time of 24.57 while Jenna Martin, Shiara Robinson and Brittany Cabbler also had notable performances.

The meet began with a big first place win in the pentathlon event by sophomore Precious Nwokey Friday night and ended with two first-place finishes by both the men’s and women’s 4x400m Relay teams.

The women’s 4x400m relay team comprised of Martin, Shorter, Cabbler and Robinson ran a time of 3.42.76 to take first place for the second time this season.

The men’s 4x400m relay team of Justin Austin, Cody Miller, Kwasi Obeng and Sharif Webb finished the meet with a photo-finish win. Webb crossed the finish line at the same time as Western Kentucky, ending the race in a dead tie and a time of 3:10.90.

The Wildcats return to competition next weekend at the Virginia Tech Elite Meet, Feb. 5-6 in Blacksburg, Va.
