LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Kentucky Track and Field Invitational wrapped up Saturday with excitement as the women edged past Florida to take first in the 4X400 relay. With a time of 3:39.94 it was also one of five NCAA provisional qualifying times set by UK this weekend.

The Kentucky squads were among 14 men’s teams and 18 women’s teams that brought hundreds of athletes to compete at UK’s Nutter Field House on Friday and Saturday.

The relay win was the first home win for the women in over 10 years and sprint coach Erin Tucker’s first win in his Kentucky career. The men followed their performance placing a strong third in their 4X400.

Texas A&M transfer Keenan Hall finished fourth in the long jump, landing exactly on the mark needed for a provisional qualifying spot at 7.50m/24-07.25. David Banks also had a strong showing in the long jump finishing ninth with a jump of 7.11m/23-04.00.

The Cats placed three top 10 finishers in the women’s shot put, led by Ashley Muffet in fourth with a throw of 15.72m/51-07.00, followed closely in fifth by Jennifer Svoboda and Mary Angell rounded out the top ten. On the men’s side Colin Boevers set a personal best in the shot put with a throw of 17.54m, only .21 away from a provisional qualifying mark.

Sharif Webb won his heat in the 800 meters and finished third overall with a time of 1:51.07.

Notable performances in distance included Katherine Peterson finishing seventh in the women’s one mile run, Josh Nadzam and Jeremy Zagorski finished sixth and eighth respectively in the men’s one mile run. Also, Luis Orta finished second in the 300-meter run with a time of 8:14.11.

Notable performance in sprints included Kwasi Obeng and Jazmyn Shorter, who finished eighth and ninth respectively in the 200m dash. Also, in the 400m dash Justin Austin finished third with a time of 48.06. Two weeks from now the University of Kentucky will be hosting the Rod McCravy Memorial Meet at E.J. Nutter Field House January 29-30.
