LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky head women’s basketball coach Matthew Mitchell today announced the addition of Bernisha Pinkett (Washington, D.C.) to the 2009-10 Wildcat freshman class.

Pinkett, who originally signed with the Wildcats last April, deferred her enrollment to the spring semester. She will be eligible immediately.

The 5-7 guard was a four-year starter for Coach Frank Oliver at Howard D. Woodson High School in Washington, D.C. She was named Most Valuable Player of the D.C. Interscholastic Athletic Association last season and was a first-team All-Beltway selection in 2009. As a senior she averaged a team-high 24.1 points per game in helping the Warriors to a 22-6 overall record. She scored over 1,600 points during her prep career and netted a career-high 45 and 42 points in games last season. She also was instrumental in helping H.D. Woodson win back-to-back City Titles.

“We are excited Bernisha has enrolled at Kentucky,” Mitchell said. “She is an outstanding offensive player with an impressive combination of athleticism and skill. She has great ball-handling ability and a deep shooting range and we are very excited she is a part of our Wildcat family.”

Pinkett chose UK over N.C. State.
