LEXINGTON, Ky. – Thanks to excitement generated from a 9-0 start to the season and an overwhelming response by Wildcat fans, the Kentucky women’s basketball program has set an all-time season ticket sales record of 5,014 for the 2009-10 season.

The 5,014 season tickets (and counting) surpass the previous mark of 4,808 set during the 2005-06 season. It marks the sixth-consecutive season UK has sold at least 3,200 season tickets.
“We set a goal of selling 5,000 season tickets back in the spring because we were confident this team was going to be exciting to watch,” UK Hoops Coach Matthew Mitchell said. “We wanted to share our excitement with our fans so we set a lofty goal. We thank our fans so much for helping us reach this new school record.”
UK Hoops held five events during the summer and fall in a season ticket campaign called the “Drive for 5K.” The events included a 5K race on UK’s campus, a special edition of a popular segment from “The Matthew Mitchell Show” called “The Coach’s Kitchen” was held live at Fayette Mall, A Day in the Park with Matthew Mitchell, a season-ticket drive at Commonwealth Stadium prior to a home football game and UK Hoops Fan Day all helped drive the season-ticket sales.
“The ‘Drive for 5K’ program took a lot of planning and I’d like to thank our administration for giving us the resources to promote it,” Mitchell said. “I’d also like to thank our marketing department, specifically Nathan Schwake, for the tremendous amount of work he put in to execute the five events. There are so many people who volunteered their time to help us and I wish I could call out everyone by name. I really appreciate everyone coming together to help us reach this goal.”
The Wildcats, who play all home games in Memorial Coliseum, have ranked in the top-25 nationally and in the Southeastern Conference’s top four in average attendance six-straight seasons.
Season tickets are still available and cost just $45. The remaining home schedule features 11 games, highlighted by a matchup with intrastate rival Louisville on Sunday, Dec. 20 and eight SEC home games, including the league home opener vs. Vanderbilt on Jan. 10 and the Pink Zone game vs. Florida on Feb. 18.
