Kentucky Head Coach Rich Brooks
“Obviously if we can learn to play for 60 minutes we would be alright. We didn’t play like the way I would like us to play the second half. Our run defense was not very good, and they threw the ball at will on us. We didn’t get any pressure on their quarterback tonight. This win is something not since 1977 that Kentucky has come into Athens and won. Our young guys stepped up tonight and made plays. It was a very strange game. I am still mad about the way we played in the first 30 minutes. My first game here was against Vince Dooley. My team was driving late in the game and we fumbled. Georgia took it down and scored. They added another score. I have waited a long time to get my first victory here. Georgia’s downfall this year has been the turnovers. We didn’t turn it over tonight and we won the game.”

“The turnovers did us in, without question. Kentucky’s a fine football team, but we helped them and we didn’t help ourselves with the turnovers in the second half. The first half was as good a half on both sides of the ball as we’ve played all season, but in the second half, we had too many balls on the ground and too many that were thrown to the other team. … We cut down the penalties, but the turnovers got us.”
“We were trying to do something different with the ball on kickoffs — some squibs, some pooches, some deep. They are the best kickoff return team we’ve seen and we’ve been struggling, so we wanted to do some different things. They’ve got all kinds of different returns, and they are good at what they do.”
On the fumble near the goal line: “We tossed the sweep and it looked as if the running back was too close to the quarterback when it happened. I don’t know if it was the alignment or the track, though. I will have to see it on film.”
“We wanted to honor our seniors tonight, and we did that in the pregame ceremony. And I think the guys honored our seniors with their effort. Tonight, there was not an effort issue. It was an issue with the turnovers.”
“We’ve still got a lot to play for. The bottom line is we’re playing Georgia Tech, and that should be enough for any true Bulldog to get after it. We’re going to bust our tails to try to go over there and take care of business.”
“You’ve got to give Kentucky credit. They were very resilient. They fought, but we struck life into them with the way we mishandled the ball.”

On the loss…
“We did things in the second half that you can’t do. That’s really all you can say. I think we did some good things in the first half and the second half, but we turned the ball over. They made plays and we didn’t. We had a turnover on the goal line at the end. We just did a lot of things you can’t do.”
On what Kentucky did differently in the second half…
“It was nothing they really did. Our running game slowed in the second half, but other than that it was situations that we got ourselves into.”

On the loss…
“It was the same thing that hurt us all season, the turnovers. We talked about wanting to win the turnover ratio and we did the opposite. We let some big plays get us. I think we had great moments as a defense. We gave up one long run and that was the difference. But we did some great things. We’ll continue to learn and we won’t let it happen again.”

“I worked hard all week. The coaches believed in me to make plays. And I made them. But in the end it’s not the result we wanted. I’m just going to keep doing what I’ve been doing. I think I’ve gotten the coaches attention and I’m going to keep working hard. It felt good but in the end it doesn’t really matter.”
On not having A.J. Green available…
“We have some great receivers on this team. We all can make plays. They just have t get us the ball and we have to make plays when they give us the ball.”
