LEXINGTON, Ky. – The question of whether wide receiver/quarterback Randall Cobb will play at Georgia on Saturday will be a game-time decision, Coach Rich Brooks said following practice Thursday morning.
“Cobb took a few reps today and it’ll be a game-time decision on his availability,” Brooks said. The doctors will advise me on what the best scenario is and we’ll go from there.
“It had been bothering him before the (Vanderbilt) game. It’s a tough job when you take as many hits as those guys do. He’s not the biggest guy in the world. He is one of the most talented, but he’s not one of the biggest.”
Cobb is a key element of the Kentucky offense. He leads the team in pass receiving (32 catches for 384 yards and two touchdowns) and is second on the team in rushing with 396 yards and seven TDs. He also averages 13.2 yards on punt returns, with one TD, and averages 25.2 yards on kickoff returns.
Brooks reported that reserve defensive lineman Antwane Glenn has the flu and will not make the trip. All other players with short-term injuries are expected to play.
Kentucky plays at Georgia on Saturday at 7:50 p.m. The game will be telecast by ESPN2 and ESPN360.com.
Kentucky Leads Tight Race in “Big Blue Crush”; Friday is Last Day to Give: After three days of the annual “Big Blue Crush” blood drive competition between Kentucky and Tennessee, Kentucky leads 1,990 pints to 1,873.
The Big Blue Crush takes place from now through Fri. Nov. 20. Fans are invited to donate blood at various sites in Eastern Kentucky, which are listed at www.ckbc.org.
All donors receive a Big Blue Crush T-shirt and gift card from McDonald’s. Donors also are entered in a drawing to win Rich Brooks autographed footballs.
The Big Blue Crush enhances blood supplies to help hospitals in Kentucky make it through the holiday season, when blood donations are traditionally low.
Coach Rich Brooks gave the honorary “first pint” of blood with his donation during his Monday news conference.
Locke, Maxwell are Game Captains: Tailback Derrick Locke and linebacker Sam Maxwell have been named game captains for the Georgia contest, Coach Rich Brooks has announced.
Game captains are usually chosen on the basis of performance in the previous game. UK defeated Kentucky, 24-13, last Saturday. Locke (Hugo, Okla.) rushed 25 times for 144 yards, both career highs, and a touchdown against the Commodores. He also threw a 41-yard pass to Morgan Newton that set up the Wildcats’ first touchdown. Maxwell (Hartwell, Ga.) had a team-high nine tackles, including a quarterback sack. He led the defensive effort that limited Vanderbilt to no points, only one first down, and just 31 total offensive yards in the decisive second half.
Locke and Maxwell will join permanent captains Zipp Duncan and Corey Peters at the pregame coin toss.
“Cat Walk” Set for 5:30 p.m.: Fans wishing to participate in the “Cat Walk,” cheering the Wildcats when they enter Sanford Stadium on Saturday, should be at Gate 5 of the stadium, on East Campus Road, at 5:30 p.m.
