LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky began on-field preparation for the Georgia game with a practice Tuesday morning in the Nutter Field House.
After the workout, which was held inside because of rain, Coach Rich Brooks discussed the difficulty of taking on the Bulldog defensive line, which ranks among the Southeastern Conference leaders in quarterback sacks and run defense.
“Our offensive line will face, in my opinion, the biggest challenge of the year so far,” Brooks said. “You may be surprised to hear me say that since we’ve played Florida’s defense and Alabama’s defense, but Georgia’s defensive front is really impressive. The two tackles are just very physical. They put more pressure on the quarterback than any team we’ve faced so far just with their front four, let alone the blitzes they come up with. This will be a real challenge for our line and for our quarterback to get the right protections in the passing game.”
Kentucky plays at Georgia on Saturday at 7:45 p.m. The game will be telecast by ESPN2.
Kentucky Leads First Day of “Big Blue Crush”: After day one of the annual “Big Blue Crush” blood drive competition between Kentucky and Tennessee, Kentucky leads 574 pints to 500.
Coach Rich Brooks sparked the first day with his donation during his Monday news conference.
The Big Blue Crush takes place from now through Fri. Nov. 20. Fans are invited to donate blood at various sites in Eastern Kentucky, which are listed at www.ckbc.org.
All donors receive a Big Blue Crush T-shirt and gift card from McDonald’s Donors also are entered in a drawing to win Rich Brooks autographed footballs.
The Big Blue Crush enhances blood supplies to help hospitals in Kentucky make it through the holiday season, when blood donations are traditionally low.
Statistics Update From Vanderbilt Game, UK Defensive Performance More Impressive: A computer entry error from the Vanderbilt game inadvertently credited the Commodores with 10 additional passing yards, which has now been corrected.
The updated stats now have Vanderbilt with 117 passing yards (instead of 127) and 199 yards total offense instead of 209. The 199 yards total offense is the best figure for a Kentucky defense against an SEC opponent in 13 years.
“Cat Walk” Set for 5:30 p.m.: Fans wishing to participate in the “Cat Walk,” cheering the Wildcats when they enter Sanford Stadium on Saturday, should be at Gate 5 of the stadium, on East Campus Road, at 5:30 p.m.
