LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Kentucky cross country teams completed their seasons at the NCAA Southeast Regional as the Wildcat women placed eighth and the UK men finished 13th at E.P. “Tom” Sawyer Park in Louisville Saturday.
Adam Henken earned All-Southeast Region honors by placing 23rd overall, completing the 10K course in 31:04. The junior led the Cats across the finish for the second time this season and seventh occasion overall in his career. On the women’s side, All-SEC selection Chelsea Oswald raced across the finish line first for the Wildcats. The UK freshman clocked in with a 6K time of 21:37 to place 34th overall.
Freshman Cally Macumber stopped the clock next for the Kentucky women, finishing 40th overall in a time of 21:42. Junior Katherine Peterson placed third for the Cats completing the course in 22:03 to place 56th overall, continuing her streak of scoring in every UK meet over the past two seasons.
Senior Lindsay Petri ran 64th in the race, clocking in at 22:10 as the fourth Wildcat to finish. Freshman Samantha Norman finished immediately behind Petri in 65th as the final scorer for UK, completing the course in 22:14. Freshmen Amanda Whowell (81st – 22:29) and Katy Achtien (111th – 22:54) also competed for the Cats Saturday. The UK women tallied 256 points to place eighth among 35 squads. Duke won the women’s regional title with 69 points.
In the men’s race, All-SEC selection Luis Orta was forced to withdraw from the race because of hamstring injury. All-SEC freshman Matt Sonnenfeldt stopped the clock at 32:07 to place second for the Cats and 55th overall. The third scorer for the Cats was sophomore Josh Nadzam who clocked in at 32:55 in the 99th slot.
Classmate Colin Heenan finished five spots later in 104th with a time of 32:57. Freshman Tyler Dickinson finished the scoring for UK in 172nd in a time of 34:27. Sophomore Matt Wagner, who had scored in each meet for the Wildcats this season, fell ill prior to the race but completed the course nonetheless in a time of 34:47 in 182nd place. The Wildcat men finished 13th among 35 squads with 449 points. The College of William and Mary claimed the men’s title with 49 points.
